Hidy-ho, StarHearts! I know I’ve been MIA, but I have such a good excuse. I’ve been out meeting some of you! I took my show on the road there for a bit. Most recently I was in Ontario, California for a way-more-fun-than-is-healthy-for-stay-at-home-writers panel with Jay Asher, Alexandra Monir, and Anna Carey. (For like 5 minutes Tahereh Mafi was there as well but she had to judge a spelling bee so she couldn’t stay. It was great to meet her, though, even if she couldn’t hang for long.)
And the fun doesn’t stop there. I’ll be in Nantucket June 15-17. I’ll be there for the Nantucket Book Festival, pimping some hardbacks. (Oooh that sounds way dirtier than I thought it would!) There are more appearances being worked out and will post them on my website as soon as I get all the details.
Anyway! The whole point of this rambling, half-incoherent post is that I’ve been wicked busy. But that doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten about you.

Hmm…something by Something Corporate, I think. “Hurricane”, maybe? It’s got a great angsty sound, and the weather-related lyrics make me think of the Scions and their powers.

Well, since I haven’t read the entire series yet…I think right now I would choose Kiss with a Fist by Florence and the Machine. It really embodies the hate that Helen and Lucas feel at the beginning of the book!

I feel like Parachute by Ingrid Michaelson would be a great song for the series
The song I would put to “Starcrossed” is “Breathe” by Faith Hill. The music video holds so much of the dry desert that is how I pictured the Underworld in your book. Faith Hill tells a story of a girl in love with this guy and how she can’t be anything without him. It’s a perfect depiction of how Helen loves Lucas, and vice versa. When Helen and Lucas together there is so much magic and the end of the song and book leave a glimmer or hope for a bright future. That’s why I would put Faith Hill’s “Breathe” to your book “Starcrossed”.

I’ve thought a lot about this, and I couldn’t decide between two songs. The first song is Find a Way by SafetySuit. This fits perfectly into the books theme of Lucas’ and Helen’s need to find some way for them to stay together. The second song is All or Nothing by Theory of a Deadman. For me, this song is perfect for how Helen and Lucas feel about each other.

I love the song, “Un Vento di Passione.” I think it would fit. Even my boyfriend likes it, and he doesn’t even speak Italian.

I had a really hard time deciding on a song.
I really loved some of the other answers and didn’t want to repeat/copy them.
I spent hours going through my music collection and searching online for the right track.
Having made a not so short ‘short list’ i managed to narrow it down to 2 songs. Out of the 2 of them one of them fit Lucas & Helen’s relationship in Starcrossed perfectly and that is the one i am going for.
My theme song for Starcrossed is: Taking Chances by Celine Dion.

If I had to choose a song as the theme then it would have to be Love Isn’t Always Fair by Black Veil Brides! It reminds me of how Helen and Lucas are completely in love with each other, but obstacles always get in the way of that, so in a way for them, love truly isn’t always fair.

Really fits the whole essence of the book in my mind. Small town, not fitting in, flying, breaking away from every thing…That’s basically Starcrossed sum up into a song!
And for some reason I can’t explain, “Written in the Stars” ~Tinie Tempah. I think it may have to do with the fact that my sister sings that every time she looks at the back of Starcrossed and reads ‘A Love written in the stars…’ lol
I think that Kings of Leon’s Closer perfectly captures the darker side of the series, especially what I read from those first chapters you released from Dreamless on the YA Scavenger Hunt. I think it captures the angst of forbidden love and the darkness and violence of the eternal war going on between the Scions as well as the creepiness of the Underworld. Here are the lyrics:

I personally like Human by the Killers. Not the average love song for the story is centered around love but the issues range much further then that. the Demigods have so much on their plates that they forget to be human almost. the song repeats many times, “Are we human, or are we dancers,” last time i checked dancers were humans but that is the point the scions are still part human, they still have to attend school, get jobs, drive cars, and fit in.
At one point the song says, “And so long to devotion. You taught me everything I know. Wave goodbye, wish me well. You’ve gotta let me go.” When Helen found out she was a scion, Luke and his family taught her everything, and she and Luke fell deeper in love, then they find out they could start a war, putting an end to the happiness. worst of all the seem to be cousins, hence the “You’ve gotta let me go…”

When the question was asked i started searching for songs that would fit Lucas and Helens love; however, everyone was focusing on that angle so then i started focusing more on Helen herself because after all the story focuses more on her than on Lucas and I think this song is perfect for her because it describes her situation and how she i going to have to take the road less traveled which is the Underworld to rid the Scions from the Furies. In the song Helens powers are also talked about.

The Call by Regina Spektor, it’s such a beautiful song and so many of the lyrics have parallels to Starcrossed;
“Just because everything’s changing doesn’t mean it’s never been this way before” ~Talking about The Fates and the cycles.
“It started out as a feeling which then grew into a hope” ~ When Helen and Lucas find out they’re free of the Furies and can be together (well not completely, but you get the idea).
“It’s just a feeling and no one knows yet but just because they can’t feel it too doesn’t mean that you have to forget” ~When Helen and Lucas find out they’re related and they try to forget their feelings.

I would say Lightning by The Wanted
Because of the intensity, fast pace, and extremely allluring charm of Starcrossed, I would choose “It’s About Time” by Barcelona. I also happen to envision another one of their songs called “Falling Out of Trees”. They are a great band and any number of ther songs give me a vision of Helen and Lucas. Other song might include, “Say” by One Republic, or “Practice Makes Perfect” by Cute Is What We Aim For. When I try to picture Lucas teaching Helen to fly, I think of “practice makes perfect”, but when I think of Helen and Lucas avoidng eachother, I think of “Say”.

I think that each section of the book has it’s own pace, emotion, and level of music. Some parts I imagine it to be stark quiet against the dialogue, but other parts are just full of heartwrenching burst of music so loud, that your heart’s beats begin to thump in rhythm, I sync with the song. The music consumes you in some scenes, and protects you from reaity at other moments. I think that “Half Life” by Imogen Heap is the song that goes with the series! I think the song really approaches the connection that Helen and Lucas share. I think that it’s a bittersweet song, which kind of describes Helen’s and Lucas’s relationship. I know this probably isn’t the first song someone would think of when they think of Starcrossed, because they think that the book needs a better song, but I really think this song is great for the book. This is a tough one with only having read the first book in the trilogy. I guess I would have to say a good one would be “Already Home” by Thousand Foot Krutch. I feel like at this point Lucas is probably feeling similar.
