June 29, 2011

What can I say? Last night was yet another example of why I love to be a YA writer. I get to be hosted by Vroman's, an amazing independent bookstore in Pasadena... and get to talk about myself. (Something my husband says I'm very good at!)

I get to read aloud from my book. So I guess all those years of theater training weren't a waste. All I kept thinking was-- slow down and project, Angelini!

But best of all, I get to meet YOU. This is the part I love the most. Like meeting Tessa and her supportive father. Tessa writes a blog called From The Bookshelf of T.B. Be sure and check it out.

Dads weren't the only supportive parents. Moms came too. And I love you for that.

Tell me that this isn't the most gorgeous head of hair you've ever seen. I nearly mugged this girl.

I also love how I get to put the names to the faces. Like Nicole, my Facebook friend. Hi Nicole! :)

I even get to wish some of you well as you go off to college next year. Like Kristen Cook, who's just about to tear up Boulder. Go get 'em girl!

I love how some of you have been inspired by my book to travel, like Jenn and Mary, who are on their way to Nantucket... in search of their own demigods! Good luck, girls! :D

And finally, I love how I get to meet some of my earliest fans. Like Erin, who runs my fansite. And Little Lauren, who needs no introduction. Homeslice, where are your heels!?

I had such a great time. Thank you all for coming!!

Helen's Tiffany & Co. Necklace Giveaway!!

June 23, 2011

If you've read my book, you'll know that Helen wears a very special necklace. I think half the reason I wrote the gold, heart-shaped necklace from Tiffany's into the story was because I wanted one myself.

Well, in order to celebrate my new official status as an international bestseller (man, I love the sound of that), I've decided to give one away to YOU!!! (even though I still don't have one myself. Boo.)

This is the gorgeous piece of jewelry in question. It's the Elsa Peretti® 18k gold Open Heart charm and chain... *sigh*

So here's how we're going to do this. Two words.

It's simple.  All you have to do is take a picture of yourself wearing a toga, holding my book (Kindles and Nooks with my cover showing) and post it on my Facebook Page.

Once we get to 100 entries, the winner will be chosen at random.

I don't want to make this a beauty contest, I just want everyone to put on a toga and have a good time!

You can be as elegant as you want. Like my sister, Martha. Ain't she purrty?

Or... you can roll out of bed, take she sheet off with you like I did... and voila! (what is up with my hair?)

You can also make it fun and include your friends, like my girls at Harper Collins did. (just make sure you each put your names down)

Feeling camera shy? Get creative like Precocious Penny did.

Tally-ho everyone (dudes too)! Thanks, Jerry!!

Be sure and include your name, or names, in the post so I can keep track of you.

It doesn't matter what country you're in, or which translation you bought. This contest is open to all!!!

So, bust open your linen closet, cover up your tender bits, hold my book up high, and say cheese!

Dark Days

June 14, 2011

I just got back from the Dark Days Tour. I have to admit—I was really nervous about going. I was the kind of nervous where you stay up all night, tummy flipping, eyes just staring at the bright streaks of passing headlights from the traffic outside your window as they wipe across the walls of your bedroom.

You see, I had to join a book tour with three amazingly brilliant, talented, and creative women, speak in front of avid book readers, answer questions off the cuff, and somehow not make a total ass of myself. Impossible. Doomed to failure. A disaster waiting to happen.

I’m not a shy girl by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, I’m just the opposite—I say too much. I was certain I was going to do something stupid, like accidentally drop the F bomb the first time I got my hands on the microphone, embarrass the stuffing out of my tour mates, and subsequently be banned from touring altogether.

On top of that… well... I didn’t think any of the girls would like me. Or if they did like me, I was sure they would all look at me and wonder-- why was I on tour with them?

Aprilynne Pike is a #1 New York Times Bestseller. Veronica Roth debuted at #6— debuted at #6 on the New York Time’s Bestseller list!

And Ellen Schreiber has the kind of devoted fans that MAKE THEIR OWN AWESOME COSTUMES for her book signings. She’s like this tiny powerhouse of supernatural romance! (I’m serious-- she’s like 5’3”)

What the F bomb was I doing there?

Dark days, indeed.

Amy Plum, my pal who wrote Die For Me, told me I had nothing to worry about. She had already been on tour with them and had ended her stint with the Dark Days crowd just as I was making my entrance. She told me that the girls were awesome and that they had a ball together. But OF COURSE they all loved Amy. Amy is probably one of the easiest people in the world to love-- even her emails are like a party. I didn’t have the same hopes for myself.

But (as usual) I was dead wrong.

Aprilynne, Veronica, and Ellen are three of the most generous, welcoming, and supportive women it has been my honor to meet. They were wellsprings of invaluable advice. They loaned me Sharpies, gave me pep talks and hugs, took me out for dinner and made me laugh so hard I snorted. My only regret is that I didn’t get to meet Tara Hudson or Amy Plum (in person). We missed each other by one day, but we’ve all lobbied to be on the next tour together.

In short, I haven’t had that much fun in ages. I want to do another tour immediately, just so I can go out for dinner with these stunning women and laugh all night in one of our hotel rooms again. We even had fun at the airport. Who has fun at an airport?

Ironically, the Dark Days tour turned out to be one of the brightest points of my entire year. I enjoyed myself probably more than I should have, seeing as how it’s supposed to be work and all. I want to thank my tour mates from the bottom of my heart. Huzzah, death.

Mission Viejo

June 10, 2011

Last night I braved traffic on the 405 and went to The Mission Viejo Public Library for a book signing and reading of Starcrossed.

My husband took a few pics of the event.

Isn't this a cool space? Perfect for me to dazzle with my "reading aloud" skills. Next time I'll remember to project.

Look at me warming up the crowd!

The signing was a whole lot of fun. I got to meet a great bunch of people, and everyone was so sweet!

I must say, a fine time was had by all. I even busted out some of my best jokes for this crowd!

A big thank you to Allison and Stephanie from the MVP Library for hosting this fantastic event, and to Alex from A Whale of a Tale Bookshoppe!

Mission Viejo Here I Come!

June 8, 2011

So if you're in the So Cal area, check out this site for directions or more information.

See you in Mission Viejo!

My Book Is An International Bestseller!

June 8, 2011

Yesterday, I awoke to an amazing email from my agent. It was titled, "Josie's first bestseller!" I was officially a bestseller in Germany! This morning I awoke to another amazing email. "STARCROSSED a Bestseller in the UK!!"

So that makes it official! I have to start waking up earlier!

Seriously, I want to thank Dressler, my German publisher, and Pan Macmillan, my UK publisher for all their hard work. They believed in me, promoted my book, and got the word out lightning fast. Thank you, thank you, thank you! And Danke for good measure!

Because of this fantastic news, I want to give something away to all of you who went out there and snapped up a copy-- something that really sparkles! ;)

Check back tomorrow and I'll have all the details for you. (toga toga toga...)

And my husband, Albert... and Simon, my manager's squeeze, who was there for like 2 seconds, and ran out saying something about having 24 hours to stop a bomb and save the world.

From left to right, Robyn, April, the Hottie, Dirtbag, Soo, Rachel, Simon, and Yael.

Behind me is Tara "The Dope Show", my lawyer. She's always got my back (and a pen, apparently!) We went out to eat right across the way from a B&N and I ended up doing an impromptu book signing. They sold out! Hee-Hee!
